Friday Our First Work Day

Friday, March 3 was our first day of physical labor at WCC and it was a very productive day. We started the day with a great breakfast and devotions by Jean Taylor.

We got to work on several projects simultaneously today. There were some things stored on the patio of the parsonage that needed moved to where they need to go, like these windows that Jon is getting ready to move. These windows will go in the foyer/coffee shop area.
One of the rooms in the church basement was converted into a tool room today. Jon worked with Ken to set up this tool room. Tools and supplies stored all over the property were brought to this room  via the window, and organized throughout the day.

In the middle of the patio organization project Charlie, the retired police officer, would of course be the one to find donuts.

Here are two of the three Miller family dogs. All three were told by Carla Miller to go in the house. The third dog, Tiny, is disobeying and running around the patio. These two are very concerned that they were being obedient but Tiny was getting away with staying outside. Notice the paws at the very edge of the threshold and the sad eyes looking up at mom, Carla Miller.

I spent a good chunk of the afternoon working with Kenny breaking up the front step in preparation for the new concrete ramp. We then put down wire in preparation for the concrete truck to arrive Saturday.

We made a trash and give away pile today. There was a lot of left overs from multiple construction projects and from parishioners in the military who have left items behind when they leave the island. By the end of the day we had a number of people stop and carry away furniture and other items free for the taking. Some things just need prepped for the Monday garbage pickup. Here is Tim opening a bunch of paint cans to make sure they are dry and ready for Monday.

Here is the patio and what will be the center of operations for most of our stay. The ladies cook our meals in the parsonage kitchen right beside this patio so we hope to start eating our meals right here. There is a beautiful breeze blowing through this shaded area most of the day. Here is Deb, Helen and Jean working on the patio this afternoon. Don't you wish the weather in Ohio was good enough to have an outdoor washer/dryer, and refrigerator, not to mention an open air picnic patio in March?
Charlie completed a number of electrical projects today, including adding conduit, wiring and lights in the basement hallway and a light over the back door of the church at the top of a flight of exterior stairs that lead down to the parsonage patio.

Vivian was busy all over the work site today, including helping me cut wire in preparation for the concrete truck to arrive tomorrow morning to pour the new handicap ramp.
Groceries are always a welcome sight when we are working up a good appetite, especially when Connie comes back with things like fresh pineapple.
After dinner Charlie finished up the back door light project and got some of the other exterior flood lights working again, with the help of Kenny up on a ladder spanning from the patio roof up to the church roof.

Here is Ken with his newly organized tool room talking with Kenny tonight. Their hand gestures look like they are telling fish stories. Ken and John also worked on setting up book shelves and unboxing and organizing Pastor John's library in his church office. We had a productive day and we are excited to get back to work Saturday morning.
