Saturday at Work at the WCC

Saturday morning the work began before breakfast. Helen was already working on laundry. Cheryl, Kendra, Jean, Vivian and Connie were working on meal prep and other important logistical tasks for the day. Ken and Kenny continued prepping for the concrete pour while breakfast was being prepared. The day started our dry but due to early and frequent showers throughout the day, we called off the concrete truck. So now the handicap ramp pour is scheduled for Monday morning at 7:30.

The ladies in the kitchen outdid themselves again today with the food, starting with bacon and eggs for breakfast on the patio. Ken Davies shared devotions with us after breakfast to set the tone for the work day ahead.

Kenny and I worked on replacing windows in the church today. Here is one of the old windows that got removed and replaced this morning.
Here is the brain trust in Pastor John's office this morning as we strategized about how to build a coffee/food trailer that can be used both to minister to people in need and raise funds for the WCC ministries.

Below you can see Kenny prepping a new window for installation while I get the window frame ready to receive this new window.
Mid-morning, Tim took a break from working hard at clearing out a storage room, to work on his vocals. I unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your perspective, didn't hit record on my video device in time to capture his free style musical plea to Jim Puckett to let him sing on the praise team back at Mount Vernon First Naz.
Here is the outside view of one of the windows Kenny and I replaced today. The degree of difficulty was a little higher due to the fact that all the windows we replaced today were two stories off the ground.
Here's Kenny up the tall ladder, ready to fasten a new window into place.
Here below is a before and after shot of another set of windows we changed out today. Getting the old non-functioning windows out proved to be more than half the battle, but the end results were worth it.

I didn't get as many shots of others working today as I would have liked since I was up an a ladder much of the day, but I did manage to capture this "screen shot" of Tim (center left), Deb (lower left) and Ken (right) working on landscaping around the back of the adjoined church and parsonage property.
Thanks Ken for sharing the two shots below of Tim and Ken working on the landscaping and the beautiful results of their efforts in front of the parsonage today.
Question: How many power tools does it take to replace a window?
Answer: All of them of course!
Here is the storage room several people cleared out today. By the time I took this picture late this afternoon, the room that was impossible to enter this morning, was cleaned up, organized, and Charlie had already been there to add a new light fixture and move the switch so it is now over by the door. Notice the toaster oven on the floor. This is one of Charlie's PVC "conduit benders".
Pastor John took Kenny, Jon and me with him on a Home Depot and Lowes run late in the day. The primary objective was a search for a trailer that would serve as the chassis for a coffee kiosk/food delivery trailer. We did not make much progress on the search today but Pastor John is confident that the right materials at the right prices will turn up in God's time and God's way.

Within our first few days working at WCC, our team has already had the pleasure of meeting all four people featured prominently in the Engage Article by Kaitlyn Williams .

Of course I've already mentioned that we have the privilege of working with Pastor John Miller and Rev. Marissa Greentree here at the WCC. We get to see them and work with them every day.

Karli, the first person Kaitlyn tells about in the Engage article, came to work at the church today. She and her mother joined us for dinner this evening as well.

Pastor LeVander McQueen stopped by yesterday and shared with us about his mobile food ministry and his efforts to start an accredited Associate Degree program for ministers here at WCC. He already has students in courses and with Pastor John's support, he plans to offer the program courses at the WCC facility we are working on right now. The vision is for students to come and get through their course of study in a much more efficient way and faster time frame (compared to the 10 years it currently takes some people to get through the required course work to be ordained) and even stay here at the WCC while in those courses. The hope is that this can be a place where people are trained for ministry so they can go back to their homes, many in remote areas on the Hawaiian islands, prepared properly to share the gospel, win people to the Lord, and make disciples.

Pastor John shared with me tonight that the article author, Kaitlyn Williams, will be coming to Wahiawa in summer 2017 to serve as an intern at WCC.

After a wonderful Saturday evening dinner on the patio, everyone settled in for the night in great anticipation for the Sunday morning services here at the WCC tomorrow.
