Tuesday, God Was at Work at the WCC and The Home Depot

Tuesday was another beautiful and productive day at WCC. We started the day with breakfast and devotions by Deb Hurlbert complete with an excellent slide presentation. Then we were off to our various assignments.

Several of us traveled back to The Home Depot for supplies including most of the materials necessary to build the coffee/food distribution kiosk that can be transported on the back of the new trailer purchased yesterday. While driving between The Home Depot and the Lowes next door, Pastor John pointed out the homeless living on every street in the area. We were less than a mile from the state capitol building but surrounded by homeless people living in the streets.Yesterday I saw a Home Depot employee giving some scrap lumber from the parking lot to a homeless man who will most likely incorporate it into his make shift shelter. I was overwhelmed by the scene and the gentle compassionate way the Home Depot employee dealt with this homeless man.

Here's Charlie in front of our three carts and Tim, Kenny and Pastor John in the background at the Pro Service area as we bought all these supplies today. The Home Depot gave us a 40% discount  because this project is aimed at helping the homeless on the island. Our two day total savings at The Home Depot was $750, which means our project budget can stretch much farther than initially expected, God is good!

Meanwhile back at the WCC, Ken and Jon painted the storage room on the right side of the stage. We have now replaced all three windows, cleared everything out of the room and painted the walls in preparation of turning this into office space for Pastors John and Marissa.

Ken also did some heavy duty landscaping work with a chainsaw today.

After everyone wrapped up their projects for the day, we headed to the beach, southwest of Honolulu to enjoy a luau. It was a great experience with good food and entertainment and good company We enjoyed the evening visiting with Dottie Linson's daughter Penny and her family who are here from their home in Texas, visiting one of their twins who is stationed in Hawaii.

It was a good day and with the van load of supplies we gathered today, there will be plenty of work for days to come. Mahalo (thanks) for your prayers and support and aloha for now.
